What to Expect When You Contact The Emily Program
Steps to Starting Care at The Emily Program
1. Consider treatment.
At The Emily Program, we understand that seeking help for an eating disorder requires tremendous courage. We aim to make the process of getting started as convenient and supportive as possible, and you can be sure that any information you share with us will be kept confidential.
2. Contact us.
You can call us at 1-888-364-5977 or complete our online form to request that an admissions specialist call you. In this first phone call, we will answer any questions about treatment, collect some initial information from you, and schedule an intake appointment.
3. Intake appointment, including intake evaluation and/or phone intake.
During this intake appointment, we will recommend a level of care appropriate for you, discuss financial aspects of treatment, and set a treatment start date. Depending on your situation, we may also conduct an intake evaluation via telehealth or phone call.
4. Medical intake (if needed).
Prior to your treatment start date, you may need a medical appointment to ensure it is safe for you to begin programming at the recommended level of care.
5. Make a plan.
Together we will discuss the logistics of treatment, including benefit information and any necessary travel or lodging arrangements.
6. Intake evaluation (if you only had a phone intake).
If you did not have an intake evaluation during your intake appointment, you will have one before you start programming. Here we’ll learn more about your food and body concerns, including any changes since your phone intake.
7. Get started.
You will start treatment in person or via telehealth, depending on your situation and level of care.
Frequently Asked Questions
What will I be asked during the phone intake appointment?
We will ask about your current eating disorder symptoms, as well as other behavioral health concerns, chemical dependency concerns, your medical situation, and any barriers to accessing care.
What time will I be called for my phone intake?
Phone intake appointments are available between 8:30am and 4:00pm Monday through Friday. Talk with the admissions team regarding current availability.
I’m currently at a different eating disorder facility. When should I schedule my phone intake?
It is recommended that you schedule your phone intake as soon as possible. In this situation, a Phone Intake Therapist/Nurse will help facilitate the intake process. They will work with you and your treatment team around your tentative discharge date while also working to set a tentative admit date at The Emily Program, making the transition between the two programs as seamless as possible.
Do I need a referral?
Each insurance plan is a little different; some require a referral and others don’t. Check with your insurance carrier to determine if you need a referral. Please contact us at 1-888-364-5977 if you have questions.
What if I need assistance with planning my intake and admission?
Clients are welcome to have their care team join in on the phone intake appointment or complete their phone intakes for the client if preferred. Our team is always happy to help clients plan to ensure that their day of admission is as smooth as possible. We are also able to provide resources and additional information regarding travel and lodging.
Does The Emily Program work with all types of eating disorders?
Yes! We work with a wide range of eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, compulsive overeating, OSFED (other specified feeding or eating disorders), and ARFID (avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder). You do not need to have an eating disorder diagnosis prior to calling. If you are concerned that you or your loved one is having eating disorder symptoms, please call for an intake.
