Art Therapy
Using paints, ink, pencils, clay, plaster, doll-making, body tracing and other media, our registered art therapists use art therapy as a tool to:
- Gain insight, relax, be present in your body, express yourself, and self-soothe. Many clients continue to use art in this way after leaving treatment.
- Discover experiences and feelings that are stored in your body, and in the sensory/visual areas of your brain.
- Add new perspective and insight into core matters surrounding your eating disorders and related emotional issues by processing your own and others’ artwork.
Our directed art activities and the variety of art materials help you explore visual imagery surrounding your eating disorder, access different parts of your eating disorder experience, and reveal insights into your relationship with your eating disorder. Making and processing art help you practice and experience things you discuss in talk therapy.
Art therapy is also effective in recovering from trauma and expressing those parts of human experience that are difficult to put into words. Many of our clients continue to use art to gain insight and provide comfort long after leaving treatment.
