Have you ever taken a gander over at the member list?

http://www.emilyprogram.com/forums/members/memberlist/

I got to thinking…there’s about four other people (besides my talkative self) who regularly post…and I’ve received tremendous support and encouragement here…and I was thinking…maybe if we got to know one another better, you know, besides our “Ed-stuff,” that it would be helpful to feel safe and supported better.  Like, what are your hobbies, likes/dislikes, favorites/pet peeves, interests, etc.

Anyone game?

Oh, the pressure of a question! Hmmm….well I don’t know much about memes and since I’ve spent a great portion of my life isolating, I’m not the best at social interaction but I am slightly obsessed with music…so something music related? Like how has music influenced your life? I know we’ve had a song thread on here before so I don’t want to repeat that.

How about you Katie, do you have any ideas for questions to get the conversation started?

Although I no longer post regularly here, I do take a look most every day to see what is going on, and if I have any relevant wisdom to share, I sometimes do.  My trouble is that since I am no longer entrenched in my eating disorder, I am afraid of sounding like some kind of know it all recovered person…like the people who drove me crazy when I was really struggling… all happy and rah rah and life will get better cheerleaders that made me feel completely inadequate because I just couldn’t kick my habits, but they certainly were strong and capable enough to do so.  I already had so many reasons to hate myself, just add that one to the pile as well. Not sure if others have had that feeling, but I think it prevents me from interacting more often on this forum.  Life in an eating disorder sucks, and it is damn difficult to get yourself out of it.  But I think it can be done.  I am still working on it, and it is much more manageable now…Rah, Rah!!

I have no clue what a meme is, but here’s a question:

If you had to live 5 places in the next 5 years (money and logistics are not an issue), what would your list be?

A meme thing that I was talking about is an internet thing that typically has a theme that people answer a bunch of questions (there are ones just broad and general, there are ones specific to the year, there are ones that are specific to your life experiences, etc.). Like this (I’m not saying we have to do one…or even this one…I’m just giving an example):

  *  Do you have any pets?
  * What was the last book you read?
  * Do you like to cook?
  * What’s your favorite food?
  * Do you have brothers and sisters?
  * Which sport do you like?
  * Do you live alone?
  * Do you live in a house or an apartment?
  * Have you ever lived in another country?
  * Have you ever met a famous person?
  * How do you spend your free time?
  * Tell me about a favorite event of your adulthood.
  * Tell me about a favorite event of your childhood.
  * What are your hobbies?
  * What countries have you visited?
  * Which country are you from?
  * What do you do on Sundays?
  * What do you do? What’s your job?
  * What is your motto in life?
  * What kind of food do you like?
  * What kind of people do you like?
  * Which languages do you speak?
  * What are you best at?
  * Who do you respect the most?
  * Who has had the most influence in your life?
  * Would you like to be famous?
  * What do you think you will be doing five years from now?
  * Are you a ‘morning’ or ‘night’ person?
  * When do you feel best? In the morning, afternoon, or evening?
  * How many times did you move as a child?
  * What kind of woman/man would you like to marry?
  * What cartoon character best describes you?
  * If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be?
  * If you knew could you try anything and not fail, what dream would you attempt?
  * What super-power would you most like to have, and why?
  * Would you live with someone without marrying them?
  * Would you rather take pictures or be in pictures?
  * Are you a beach, country or city person?
  * Where do you spend most of your money?

Live 5 places in 5 years:
Iceland
Portland, OR
Nepal
Norway
Mongolia

That other list looks cool… and huge, lol.

What’s your question? Or would anyone else answer the 5 in 5 years?

5 in 5 Years:

Money and logistics being no problem - I’d move to these places in a heartbeat. Of course, I would be flying my family out to visit me often!

In no particular order:
San Francisco/Northern California
Maine
Greece

Five places in five years?  I don’t like change!!!  But fun to think about.
    1.  Hilo, Hawaii
    2.  Toliara, Madagascar
    3.  Vieques, Puerto Rico
    4.  Wellington, New Zealand
    5.  Roseau, Dominica
I think that might be called island-hopping.  No dark, cold, snowy winters for me!

Ok, next question…

what books(s) are you reading and/or what are some of your favorite books? (recovery related or not)

I just finished “eating in the light of the moon” (which is recovery based)...and it was freaking awesome…I think every page had some sort of underlining or notes or dog-eared page because it was so inspirational for me.

I’m also working through some romance novels…but none worthy of recommending…lol…

Good question! I am currently re-reading Eating in the Light of the Moon. It’s been a couple years since I’ve read it so I’m enjoying re-connecting with it. I’m in a different place now than when I read it before so I feel like I’m reading it with new eyes. I also just finished Carol Burnet’s book “This Time Together”. I just love her - she’s so funny. It’s a great read as all the chapters are really short stories.

Favorite books? I loved A Heartbreaking Work of a Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers as well as The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. I also really enjoyed The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. I kind of had a lapse in book reading for a while but I’ve been reading more lately (yeah!). Oh and I just read Juliet Naked by Nick Hornby. I love his books.

How about you?

Well, I love Jodi Picoult, Dan Brown, and Donald Miller. And the Harry Potter books.

I don’t do well with ed books, even if they are recovery based.

Someone else do the next question!!
