What are everyone’s favorite books that have helped them through ED….. recovery and beyond?

I’ve found myself in a predicament.  I’m in a book club and the book for January is “Winter Girls”!

I was shocked and 100% against attending.  After sleeping on it I thought it might not be a terrible situation to hear others comments on ED.

I know it’s a YA read….recently published in March of 2009.  But I don’t know more than that.

If anyone is interested I actually read “Eating in the Light of the Moon”. Suggested by my therapist at Emily Program and it was the BEST tool I used in my recovery. I actually passed it on to my dear friend who was deep into bulimia. I love the idea of the labyrinth and think it’s a beneficial read for all women regardless of their current level of ED.

cheers.

Right now Jenni Schaefer’s “goodbye ed, hello me” is doing wonders for me.

“Life without Ed” is a really good one too by Jenni Schaefer. It really helps you learn to separate yourself from ed and how to handle relapses and stuff…really good!

This is a bit off-topic, maybe, but I thought I could get some feedback here.
As far as recovery books go, I am LOVING “Don’t Diet, Live It!” It’s a workbook used in a lot of groups at EP and they sell it at Macawber’s across the street.

I would like to write my personal story of recovery. I have been with the EP for five years, and I think it would make a good read. I would like to write specifically about the EP and me. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Should I ask my therapist if she wants to write it with me? What would the legal ramifications be? Would YOU read it? :)

Thanks.

I would not recomend reading Winter Girls
Lets just say it is not very recovery based and has the potential to be very triggering to you
along with that I would stay away from books such as Skinny and Wasted
Life without Ed is a very good book and so is Gaining

my advice though
if you are reading any books on eating disorders and or recovery make sure you are reading them for the right reason and if they trigger you in the least STOP READING THEM IMMEDIATLY!

I also love “Don’t Diet, Live It” which we used when I was in the Intensive Outpatient Program.  It is right on!  I am out of IOP now but still refer to that book often.  My favorite book which has helped me in my recovery from Binge Eating Disorder/Compulsive overeating is “Intuitive Eating”.  I also read “Crave” which triggered me into my eating disorder again.

Eve Ensler’s The Good Body is also phenomenal. She is one of my heroines.

Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn and Eating in The Light of the Moon by Dr Anita Johnston
Both of those books have been invaluable to me.
