Integrating Into the Communities We Serve
By Sarah Hrudka, Outreach Specialist at The Emily Program
As The Emily Program continues to expand treatment options across the country, it’s more important than ever to truly be part of and contribute to the richness of each community we join. To do this, The Emily Program has designated outreach staff who are able to take on this important community role.
The outreach team has been staying busy by continuing to build and maintain new and existing relationships in the community, attending conferences, giving presentations, educating healthcare and mental health providers, the list goes on. In order to support all that we want to do, we have brought on more people to aid in our community endeavors, and we are pretty excited about this growing team, to say the least. As you begin to see these individuals in your community more and more, we thought we’d share little bit about them; in and out of The Emily Program!
Tiffany Hammer, Outreach Specialist (West)
Why I love TEP: I strongly believe in empathy. The Emily Program helps individuals through a caring, empathetic model and staff who truly care about sustainable recovery. While in training and hearing directly from TEP’s senior leadership how much they believe in this, is incredibly inspiring and motivating. Recovery is possible!
Mantra I live by/quote I love: There are two that I always come back to: 1) this was the most personally significant to adopt in my life, “I choose to be happy” and 2) this is one that I have always loved, “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” Robert F. Kennedy
When not at TEP, you can find me: Having a good laugh or deep conversation with friends, learning about personal growth/spirituality or healing crystals/rocks, or I am getting outside and exploring this beautiful earth!
Sarah Hrudka, Outreach Specialist (Central)
Why I love TEP: The beautiful thing about humanity is that we are all in fact so different and unique, yet have the same needs at the end of the day. The Emily Program does an incredible job creating their treatment around just that; knowing that recovery IS possible for all, yet we all need to get there in ways that resonate best with us as individuals. They are creating a necessary movement in the mental health world that is abolishing the stigma that we cannot talk about eating disorders, by bringing education and awareness to let individuals know they are supported.
Mantra I live by/quote I love: Oh man, this changes with every new season or shift in my life. I’d have to say currently, and what tends to always reign true, is: “If you have a body, you are entitled to the full range of feelings. It comes with the package.” That Anne Lammott; she gets it every time.
When not at TEP, you can find me: Behind my camera lens, at the dog parks with my two pups, trying a new brewery in the city, taking a sweaty yoga class, or dancing/cooking in the kitchen with my new fiancé. (And learning how to say that word without giggling like a teenager.)
Katie Burke, Outreach Specialist (East)
Location: Cleveland, OH
Why I love TEP: I love that TEP wants to normalize eating disorders and their treatments. Access to care and embarrassment for seeking care has always been a problem in the mental health world. Helping spread awareness about who is affected by ED and that it’s OK to seek treatment is a difficult task, but TEP is well on its way to breaking down those barriers and I’m proud to be a part of that.
Mantra I live by/quote I love: “Well-behaved women seldom make history.” Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
When not at TEP, you can find me: Hanging out with family or friends; reading; at the gym; buying unnecessary things at Target.
Keri Clifton, Outreach Manager
Why I love TEP: Having been at The Emily Program for over 5 years, I continue to love TEP because it is a place for growth and self-discovery. I believe that to be true for both our clients as well as our staff. Each day I appreciate the variety and ever evolving work environment as we continue to improve for our clients, and I love working with the amazing group of people who have found themselves here. It’s like a second home.
Mantra I live by/quote I love: Surrender
When not at TEP, you can find me: Spending time with my husband, family and friends. I also love spending time outside in the garden, reading, practicing yoga and volunteering in the community.
If you see any of these women out and about, be sure to say “hello”! And if you have an idea of how we can support you and/or your community, we’d love to hear from you. Just click on the Outreach person's picture to email them.
