With an estimated 1 in 5 Americans coping with mental health issues, chances are you know someone who is affected. And when it's someone you love, it can be hard to know how to help.
Research shows that social support goes a long way toward warding off the effects of stress associated with mental illness and facilitating recovery. Being an encouraging, understanding presence in someone's life is one of the best ways you can help. Make sure your loved one is safe, make an effort to learn about their illness, and be a shoulder to lean on through difficult moments.
Given the significance of support systems, we are happy to be launching a social media campaign aimed at putting positive messages of support out into the world.
